Patient on the North-East Ridge in Mönch 7 months after hip replacement surgery

With the MicroHip minimally invasive procedure, it is possible to perform total hip replacement surgery through a very small incision without damaging muscles and tendons. Although definitive study results are not yet available, experiences to date show that nearly all patients can be reliably operated using the minimally invasive procedure that we have developed. The prerequisite for this, however, is proper training of the surgeon performing the procedure. Training courses are offered at different sites, such as the DePuy Learning Center.

In many cases, the results are so good that it can be hard to make the patient accept the importance of carefully increasing the stress load on the hip. (Fig. 6) Although postoperative pain is greatly diminished and full weigh-bearing in the initial postoperative period is theoretically possible, human biology remains unchanged. In other words: Proper wound healing and muscle strengthening takes time. Even in the ever-more-hectic world we live in, the patient should take the necessary time for his or her new hip.
