Patients are referred to the OZM Team by their primary care physicians who have diagnosed them with an injury or disease of the musculoskeletal system. The referral from the primary care physician is very important as this brings with it background knowledge about the patient’s medical history, as well as specific details relevant to the present health situation. The OZM physicians are specialists and most often make only single “repairs”. Thereafter,  the patient is referred back to the primary care physician for further treatment.

The OZM conducts special examinations to confirm the diagnosis which are then used as a basis for proposing treatment plan. The treatment plan may involve  a surgical intervention. In such situations, patients will be fully informed about the procedure and, when  consent has been given, the surgery will  be organised by the hospital in collaboration with the primary care physician. The OZM physicians conduct the operation in the operating theatres of the Münsingen hospital and supervise the care of the post-surgical patient  in the hospital’s orthopaedic department. In addition, preparation and organisation of out-patient treatment and  home care (physiotherapy, SPITEX , follow-ups) are managed by the hospital orthopaedic team.
